The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, in Dutchess County in the vicinity of Whalesback Road in the Town of Red Hook, said New York State Police on Twitter.
The state police assisted the Red Hook police during the incident, as well as the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office who covered the area with its helicopter.
The Red Hook Central School District was also put on lockdown as police searched for the unknown suspect.
Red Hook Police have not released any information about the event, but County Executive Marc Molinaro provided a statement, thanking the officers for their rapid response.
“We are grateful to the officers of the Red Hook Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the New York State Police for their rapid response," he said.
